A+ Art - Wyatt Lehmenkuler A very crisply and strikingly presented collection of icons and images with a lot of excellent original material. You'll find categories Balls, Buttons, Backgrounds, Bars, Clipart, Icons and Graphics. This fine site is now expanded with lots of new goodies. There are now nine pages of bars, alone. Worthy of a visit. Reviewed 6/14/96. Updated 2/23/97.

Aberdeen University Riding Club Icon Shop A small collection of icons used on their WWW pages. Most are available elsewhere. The principal attraction is interesting clip art related to horses and riding. Reviewed 3/5/97

Abed's Icon Collection The site offers a good number of icons gathered from around the Web. Abed's 3D Buttons and Lines are original, crisp and good. Reviewed 1/12/96

Andy's Art Attack A very nicely presented collection of original web art as the front end to a commercial graphics service provider worth investigating. You'll find categories: Animations, Arrows, Backgrounds, Bullets, Buttons, Letters and Lines. Reviewed 7/5/97

Andy's Index of Icons - Andreas Ley A large and down-to-earth collection of icons for HTML development including - Arrows - Balls - Buttons - Calendar - Flags - Logos - Rulers. Much is of local interest only. Reviewed 1/14/96

Anthony's Icon Library (Alcons) - Anthony Thyssen A truly monumental collection of icons and symbols, many WWW-related and in .xpm format. GZip'ed and Tar'ed archives are offered. Includes: Descriptive Icons - for general symbols, window icons and display backgrouds. Application Icons - for use within specific applications or type of application. Programming Icons - generally programmed into actual applications. Large Icons - very clean and parts of them are usable for the creation of smaller icons. Reviewed 1/14/96

Awesome Icon Index - Innovative Security Products A large and well-organized collection of links to graphics sites. Reviewed 3/5/97

BAE Icon Archive A small collection from the University of Georgia's Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department. These appear to have been gathered and presented largely for local use. Some larger images, especially of trains, are worthy of a look. Reviewed 1/14/96

The Bit Map Vault "Our main goal is to provide easy access to commonly needed bitmaps. We accomplish this by searching the WWW to find Icons, Divider Bars, Bullets, and other small bitmaps and databasing them. The Bitmap Vault can be seperated into three entities. bob the database interface, benny the bit map worm, and boris the social worker." A great collection of original and gathered icons and images for HTML development presented crisply and with humor. Reviewed 1/14/96

Bonsai Icon Collection Like the title says - a small collection of bonsai icons (is that redundant?). This is an interesting site with lots of bonsai-related stuff. Reviewed 1/14/96

Bullets by Jen A nicely presented and large collectin of original 24X24 pixel bullet icons for HTML development. You'll probably find what you want here. It's worth the search. Reviewed 1/14/96. DEAD LINK as of 2/23/97

Carol's Clip Art Collection The collection includes: Lines, Miscellaneous Images, Letters, Backgrounds, Smiley's & Globes, Buttons, Marbles and more. A lot of these images are clear and suitable for reduction to icons. The letters (initials) are very interesting. Reviewed 3/20/96

Celine's Original .GIFs "Welcome to my .GIF Shop. Come on in, peruse the backgrounds, arrows, bullets, etc. If you like them, you can download them directly to your computer! No charge! No strings attached! No hidden sales tax, shipping and handling charge, no copyrights! How can I afford to do this you ask? VOLUME!!!!!" This is interesting and fun stuff. Best of all - it's original. Reviewed 1/14/96

CERN Icons Is Internet Establishment an oxymoron? Well, you're at the WWW hub. This is a megacollection. You'll find the "403 forbidden" messages annoying and you may have access problems because of the volume of traffic. Reviewed 1/14/96

Cool Graphics on the Web - Gini Schmitz Another large collection of collections and a good guide to some of the best graphics sites on the Web. This site has a wonderful presentation style. It's graphics intense so you'll have to wait a bit while it loads but "Wow!." Reviewed 2/23/97

Cornell Icons Directory The Looking for Icons page has been discontinued. There is a small collection here. Reviewed 1/14/96

CSC Image Library "These pages contain various icons, images, lines, etc. to use in creating HTML documents. Most of the images are in GIF format, although some are JPG." A good collection of icons for HTML development. If you're unable to download the developer offers images on diskette. Don't forget to visit the Texture Land! mirror site for background images. Reviewed 1/14/96

Daniel's Icon Archive DEAD LINK as of 3/6/96 Formerly: http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/~mccoy/Icons/index.html A very large collection of icons and images for HTML development. They can be downloaded en masse in a single archive file if you wish. There are good how-tos and FAQs and links to other collections, as well. The presentation uses the new framing capability with multiple html code which can make navigating difficult. Reviewed 1/14/96

DCS WWW Image Collection "These images have been gathered from various places around the Web, and placed here to make it easier for you to construct your own documents." This is a good collection of icons, much of it for local HTML development at Baylor and Stanford. You'll find some interesting and unexpected things. Reviewed 1/14/96

The Design Shop A good collection of clipart and icons in categories: Bullets, Direction Icons, Lines and Misc Clip Art. Crisply presented site. Easy to navigate. Reviewed 12/13/96

Dvaita Home Page Icon Collection - Shrisha Rao A small collection of the icons and images used on the Dvaita Home Page. Categories include Arrows, Backgrounds, Balls, Bars and lines, Buttons, Miscellaneous, and Blue Ribbon campaign. Reviewed 6/14/96

Eric's Hot Icons - Eric Barnes A fair-sized collection of interesting images and icons in categories: Bars, Backgrounds and Symbols. The page is creatively presented. Many of the images presented came from this archive. Reviewed 4/15/96

ExNet's Image Gallery A very small collection of icons and gizmos in computing, law, science and technology, sci-fi, sport, the unexplained, with some patterns, too. Reviewed 2/6/96

Fabian Borges's Collections A great collection of animated icons and cursors and cartoon figure images. You'll find Transformers, X-men, Mega-Man, Warcraft and Mortal Kombat icons. Killer music, too. Reviewed 3/4/97

Fay Studios - The Gallery A very stylish site but somewhat tedious to navigate. You'll find Postcards, Gallery and Banners. Many links to selected other graphics sites are included. Reviewed 7/6/97

FilePile Literally thousands of images in all categories with a search engine to help you locate what you want, but just try browsing for a while. The search engine allows you to see a thumbnail before you download the full image. A lot of this stuff is from old free FTP sources. Don't expect high quality everywhere. Reviewed 7/6/97

Filez - Graphics - Icons This site provides FTP access to SimTel and WinSite archives of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 icon sets. The main site offers a Netwide file search capability. I tried locating several files without apparent success. Maybe you'll do better. Reviewed 2/25/97

Flinux Icon Archive A fine collection of images for HTML development. You'll find categories: 3dcolor 3dgray 64x38 arrow balls buttons comic-people computer disks-tape documents flags folder games graphics lines logos mail misc myfavor office panel signs simcity whole icons The entire collection is available for download as a tar file. I don't know why SimCity is not included in the games category. Reviewed 3/4/97

Frederick Coutret's Icon Collection You'll need a browser that can handle frames and you'll need to brush up on your French a bit. You'll find a small collection of buttons, bars and backgrounds. There are links to a page counter with some nice features and HTML manuals, too. Reviewed 5/29/96

Fuzzy's Icon Directory A small collection of icons and images mostly of local interest at Carnegie Mellon. It includes the Lycos trademark images and some other interesting arachnid stuff. Reviewed 1/15/96

Gilbert's Icon Archive - Gilbert Hyatt An interesting and eclectic collection of images, both original and gathered from the Web including - backgrounds, bullets, buttons, images, inlines, and lines. The site is nicely organized, too. Reviewed 1/17/96

Gizmos for use with Mosaic - Geir M. Elnan A rather small collection of icons gathered from other sites around the Web. Reviewed 1/16/96

Graphical Symbols Compliant to IEC Standard 417 Sounds pretty stuffy and most of it is. It's largely black and white images of electronics symbols. But, if you need them, they're here. Reviewed 1/15/96

The Graphics Galleria A moderately sized collection of images and icons in categories: Lines & Bars, Backgrounds, Icon Images, Mozilla Images, Buttons. The Mozilla Images section is pretty complete. Nicely presented. Reviewed 9/15/96

The Graphics Gallery - Yoni Schneller A sizeable and interesting collection of original and collected graphics in categories: backgrounds, lines, bullets and animated GIFs. There are also links to other graphics resources on the Net. Reviewed 9/5/96

Graphics World - John Crow & Kathy Stone A good sound collection of backgrounds, icons and lines gathered from around the Net. The graphics are nicely presented and the pages load quickly. Reviewed 12/13/96

GraphX Kingdom A monumental collection of clipart in categories: Automobiles, Baseball, Basketball, Birds, Books, Cartoons, College, Computer, Document, Email, Flags, Food and Drink, Hockey, Insects, Mammals, Marine Life, Miniatures, Miscellaneous, Multimedia and Music. Icon Browser - University of Pisa A stellar and eclectic colletion of icons mostly in large montage files. You'll need to do a little cutting and cleaning up but it will be worth the effort. Icon Depot - Jayne Payne A large and well-organized collection of icons gathered from around the Net. You'll find buttons, balls, bars, gizmos, Mozilla and some original stuff. Reviewed 5/28/96

Iconolog 96 - Ann E. Cleary "There have been a number of changes to the collection. The Iconolog is housed in the Pavilion of Icons, perched high on the cliffs of Crater Lake in the Realms of the Great Web. The original collection of 22,963 windows ico's is still available. The ongoing Gif collection retains the limitation of 32x32 pixels & 16 colors, but has no restriction on the color palette. It now numbers 6606 gifs, including a special collection of 171 Smileys. All gifs are on display. Both collections are indexed & available for download in toto or by category." This is a truly monumental collection of Windows icons. Now in glorious, living frames! Icons Available at DOE, Denmark "This is a collection of icons for use in HTML-documents. It's not my own work but a collection taken from Stanford's Graphic Element Samples and from Randy D. Ralph's Icon and Images for Use in HTML Documents. A lot of the buttons are taken from Moby's Icon Archive." Basically an unofficial mirror site for this and other icon collections for local use. Image-O-Rama - David Creelman A nicely presented collection in categories: LINES: Horizontal Rules used to separate sections in a Web page. BULLETS: Circular or Square images commonly used in lists. BUTTONS: Square images that appear "pushable" or bordered images used as decoration. OTHER STUFF: Whatever doesn't fall in the above 3 categories; icons, image gifs, etc.. "MINI GIFS": Smaller "unusual" gifs that I didn't want to mix in with the rest. ANIMATED GIFS: Animated GIFs not JAVA applets...a small collection. . PHOTOICONS This commercial site from IcoNation offers impressive and beautiful icons for use in customizing Windows applications They could just as easily (with permission, of course) be used to decorate your WWW pages. Only a few are available free for the clicking. The collections are theme-oriented and delivered on diskette. Reviewed 1/14/96

PixelPlace.com Formerly "Benber Does Icons," this is nn unusual, large and interesting collecion of icons with a very novel and crisp presentation. It includes the "Icon Factory" so you can design your own. There is a large *.GIFts section free for the taking, a colleciton of true Windows 95 icons in .ICO format, junk icons, page dividers (rulers) and lost of other kewl stuff. Planet Earth - Images, Icons and Flags - Philip Greenspun A truly monumental collection of collections. A Magellan 4-Star Site. The site has links to archives of images from all over the Web. The links are well organized. Included are: Image Servers - Space Images - NASA Images - Earth Images and Maps - Travel Images - Medical Images - Image Archives - Icon Archives - Flag Archives - Miscellaneous. You'll have no trouble navigating the site and finding what you want. Also included are collections of icons created for and used at nosc.mil, itself. Reviewed 1/24/96

Web.Gallery - Thomas Kuhn "You may use these designs freely on your personal webpage with one small exception: If you use one of my graphics, please credit the web.gallery somewhere on your page. While not necessary, a link back to my homepage would be very much appreciated." This is a very impressively preseted graphics site with some stellar original graphics files as well as many collected ones. The high-end graphics, frames, and sounds make it slow to load. What you have in this area is an assortment of .pic and .ico files which will look great on your desktop. You can also print these babies out, slap magnets on the back of 'em and put them on your fridge. But, of course, that would mean that you had no life. Click."
